Jets cornerback Kris Boyd hospitalized in critical condition after NYC shooting

Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is in critical condition after a shooting in New York City early Sunday morning, according to a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation.

Police responded to Manhattan restaurant and bar Sei Less at around 2:09 a.m. and found the 29-year-old with a gunshot wound to his abdomen, according to the New York Police Department.

The athlete was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, police said. The bullet is lodged in Boyd’s lung, according to the law enforcement source.

Video from the scene of the shooting Sunday morning showed police tape and vehicles blocking off the road on Seventh Avenue and West 38th Street.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Jets said the team is “aware of the situation” involving Boyd “and will have no further comment at this time.”

A law enforcement source said Boyd was engaged in a fight when the shooting happened. No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, according to police.

Boyd, a Texas native, began his NFL career in 2019 when he was selected in the seventh round of the draft by the Minnesota Vikings. Before that, he played college football at the University of Texas.

Boyd spent four seasons with the Vikings before signing with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023, but was eventually released from the team later that year. He was then signed to the Houston Texans’ practice squad, where he stayed for two seasons.

In March, the cornerback signed a one-year contact with the Jets. He has been out due to an injury since the summer.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
